First Friday

Massed musicians play September First Friday

Skandia's 5 September dance is the day before our annual musicians' gathering (the Spelmansstämma—see related article), so we'll feature a number of our Stämma musicians at the warm-up dance. The First Class fiddlers will be on hand, and Bill and Gina Boyd, and many more. The dance instruction starts at 7:30, with Elaine Mathies and Tom Berglund teaching the ever-popular Boda polska ("Sweden's answer to the tango"). Live music starts at 8:30, and yes, there will be lots of Boda polskor.

Andrea Hoag, Loretta Kelly, & Charlie Pilzer at October's First Friday Dance

Turning 60 years young this year? This dance is for you! Join me (Frank) at the First Friday dance in October (my 60th) to celebrate "our" big six-zero in 2008 with one of my favorite bands.

Andrea Hoag, Loretta Kelly, and Charlie Pilzer travel from the Washington, D.C., region to play for the October First Friday Dance on 3 October at the Cedar Valley Grange and the Bainbridge Island dance on 4 October. They received enthusiastic receptions from dancers when they last played in Seattle in October 2006. They will play a great mix of gammeldans, bygdedans, and springar.

If you've enjoyed their CDs, "Hambo in the Snow" (2006) and "Hambo in the Barn" (1996), you'll love hearing them in person and dancing to their music.

Kathi Ploeger and Don Meyers teach Telespringar at 7:30 p.m. to warm you up for Loretta's driving hardingfele music later in the evening.
