Skandia Folkdance Society offers different levels of folkdance classes plus special dances and workshops.
FREE BEGINNER Scandinavian dance class near UW
Mondays, from 7-9 p.m. Classes run through May 20, then break over the summer.
Location: University Heights Center, room 209. 5031 University Way NE, Seattle. There is plenty of parking.
It is time to act on your New Year’s resolution to learn to dance! The focus will be on beginners, although advanced dancers are welcome, as well. Singles and couples are welcome. We change partners frequently, and anybody can do either role. We will cover basic turning skills and variants of waltz, schottis, snoa, hambo, and other lovely couple turning dances, as well as fun mixers.
Bring clean shoes to change into, with smooth soles and low, flat heels for easy turning. If you don't have dance shoes, we have dance socks to help you turn easily. Show up any day; there’s no need to pre-register. Vaccines and boosters are strongly encouraged, and everybody must wear good masks. Send any questions to lisa@hambo.us or (206) 258-2580.

Location: Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave N. Seattle, Room 1 in the blue building. Take the #5 bus or park in a PNA lot.
The 6-week class series from March 27 through May 1 is taught by Lisa Brooks, Elaine Mathies, Judy Patterson, Jerry Walsh, and Harry Khamis.
The class will focus on dances most commonly played on 1st and 3rd Fridays. The focus of the class will be on polskas but may include other dances. The speed of the teaching and the choice of dances will depend on the preferences of those who attend. Singles and couples are welcome. We change partners frequently, and anybody can do either role.
The 4-week class series from May 8 to 29 will be taught by Jerry Walsh and Judy Patterson.
They will teach some of the dances most commonly played on First and Third Fridays. The focus of the class will be on polskor, but may include other dances. Finnskogspols, Rørospols, Åtabaks polska, and Gothenburg Mazurka will likely be reviewed. The speed of the teaching and choice of dances will depend on attendee preferences. Singles and couples are welcome. We change partners frequently, and anybody can do either role.
