Skandia Dances First and Third Fridays of each month

Skandia dances are now LIVE and on Zoom
COVID policy:  Beginning on June 1, 2024, masks are now optional. Please read the details on the home page.
On Fridays, teaching is from 7:30-8:30 pm, and then the dance from 8:30-10:30 pm.

We are also Zooming the dances. Please make a donation to Skandia if the Zoom is valuable to you. Members will receive the Zoom link via email.  Not a member?  You can still join via Zoom, but you must email info@skandia-folkdance.org by Friday noon to get on the guest list.  Please do not share the link as we cannot admit people we cannot identify.

Friday, July 18, 2025 Harry Khamis and Pat Pi will teach Kalle P. vals. This is a favorite Swedish pattern waltz among Scandinavian dancers. The same dance is called Margot's Valsen in Norway. In recent years, two additional parts have been added to the dance (it was decided that Kalle P. needed a family): Lotta (wife) and Tvillingarna (the twins). Harry and Pat will start with a careful review of Kalle P, then will add the two additional parts of the dance. See: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbRHNZHfhxk. Music will be provided by the ever-popular Hale Bill and the Bopps. They are five of our favorite musicians whose musical rhythms and harmonies always drive the dancers to new heights. In addition, visiting ex-Seattleite fiddler Ingrid H and her husband will play a set for our dance enjoyment. Come and join in!

Friday, August 1, 2025  Judy and Jerry will teach waltz variants. Waltz is a gorgeous and flexible basic dance. Judy and Jerry will teach some lovely and fun variants that you can use at Skandia or elsewhere.  For this dance, we will have long-time Skandia musicians Birgit and Phil Ages. They know all about waltzes and other dances to get the whole crowd on their feet. Let's start August off with a dance party for everybody!

Friday, August 15, 2025  Don Meyers and Elaine Mathies will teach Tokyo Polka. Richard Powers developed this lively line dance for when he taught in Japan. For this dance, we are lucky to have Peter Michaelsen and Joe Finn visiting from Port Townsend. Those two fiddlers have a habit of playing excellent dance music, so let's all go and make the most of it!
