Skandia Folkdance Society offers different levels of folkdance classes plus special dances and workshops.
FREE BEGINNER Scandinavian dance class near UW
Mondays, from 7-9 p.m. The free Beginner Scandinavian dance class continues on Mondays through June 9 (except NOT on March 24, April 14 nor May 26); it will keep going through June 9. Text (206) 258-2580 if the door is locked
Location: University Heights Center, room 209. 5031 University Way NE, Seattle. There is plenty of parking. Use "side door" to enter. Contact Lisa (see below) for the code to the door.
The focus is on beginners; advanced dancers are also welcome. Singles and couples are welcome. We change partners frequently, and anybody can do either role. We will cover basic turning skills and variants of waltz, pivot, schottis, hambo, and other lovely couple turning dances, as well as fun mixers.
Bring clean shoes to change into, with smooth soles and low flat heels for easy turning. If you don’t have dance shoes, we have dance socks to help you turn easily. Location: Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave N. Seattle, Room 1 in the blue building. Take the #5 bus or park in a PNA lot.
For the 6-week session from Feb 19- March 26, Lisa Brooks and Elaine Mathies will focus on the dances to be taught at Springdans, especially Lillhärdal, Hede, and Storhurveln. From April 2 to May 7, Nancy and Kelly will teach the next six-week series, focusing on Vossarull from Norway, as well as dances from Sweden, primarily polskas in Skandia’s repertoire. One of the goals of the class series will be to refine dancing skills. You may request dances to be taught, as well.
